YGC36 and Urban DFW Elite, both located in Dallas, TX and sponsored by the mega shoe brand, adidas basketball, announce the merge and partnership of “Southern Assault”
(Wednesday October 2, 2019) – YGC36, an elite youth travel basketball program founded by Vonzell Thomas has merged with Urban DFW Elite, a long term, established program operated by Jazzy Hartwell. The two organizations have joined forces and are now officially known as “Southern Assault”. The merger was strategically crafted with the purpose of developing an elite travel basketball program that would be able to compete at the highest level, while strengthen the organization’s presence within the Texas market. The two will co-direct Southern Assault with equally shared responsibilities.
“I feel great about the merge. No egos and one goal. This union will bring a highly competitive program that will compete at the highest-level year in and year out. It will also give kids the opportunity to reach their goals and dreams while playing on the adidas circuit,” said Vonzell Thomas
Thomas brings a repertoire of accolades, a track record of developing young men into leaders on and off the court and will share 26 plus years of experience in coaching youth basketball. Since the inception of his first travel basketball team 20 years ago, Thomas has had the opportunity to coach, mentor, and produce multiple professional athletes, including Tony Mitchell (NBA & Overseas), Latavious Williams (Miami Heat & Overseas), Brandon Fields (NBA) and Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics).

Jazzy Hartwell, Director of Urban DFW Elite has spent the last 30 years dedicated to helping young athletes reach their goals of one day playing collegiately and/or professionally. In 2004, Hartwell formed Urban DFW Elite, establishing itself as a stapled AAU basketball program, producing talent that went on to play professionally. Darrell Arthur (13-year NBA Veteran), Michael Crabtree (10th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft), Jermaine Beal (Professional Overseas Basketball), and Jordan Mickey (Professional Overseas Basketball) just to name a few. Hartwell’s proven leadership, and determination to build a winning program will not fall short with the formation of “Southern Assault”, in the words of Mr. Hartwell, “This program will embody what champions look like.”

The adidas circuit series is a three-stop travel team circuit for adidas sponsored teams to gain exposure in front of college coaches, media outlets, and their peers. Teams face high level national competition allowing players to prepare for the challenges and opportunities they will ultimately face in college.
