IndiHoops presents the 3rd Annual 8th Grade World Championship,
The Little League World Series of Youth Basketball
Dallas, Texas – June 25th, 2018 – IndiHoops, a pioneer in the 8th Grade/14U basketball world, is back with its third installment of the IndiWorld Championships (IWC), IndiWorld3. This year’s event will take place from June 28th through July 1st 2018, in Irving, Texas; at the new Drive Nation facility run by former NBA All- Star Jermaine O’Neal.
The level of competition in the event’s first two years has been nothing short of stellar. The event featured Scottie Barnes (a highly-ranked prospect in the high school Class of 2020) in year 1, and Paolo Banchero (also a highly-ranked prospect in the high school Class of 2021) in year 2. The IWC championship game has already seen many players go straight into their high school careers; at such highly- decorated programs as Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Garfield High School in Seattle, and University High School in Florida.
This year’s tournament will swell to double the size of last year’s; with teams coming from as far away as Toronto, Canada. We have committed representation and attendance from three major shoe brands. States with teams in attendance include California, Nevada, New Mexico, Georgia, North Carolina, Nebraska, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Indiana, and the event’s home state of Texas. The team list includes IndiHoops’ current number one 8th grade team in the nation and event host, Drive Nation, who will look to keep the championship trophy in house, even after the tournament has completed. In addition to the greater than 32-team tournament, the 2018 IWC will debut a new game format with a standalone game featuring two of the best teams in the class of 2023; Team Thomas from California and Team Griffin from Oklahoma.
The championship will be at July 1st, 2018; 11 AM Central Time.

What is Marketing?
There are variations when defining what Marketing because it is so BROAD, but in this blog, we’re defining Marketing as creating, communicating, capturing and sustaining value for your organization or company. It’s a need that every business must have to foster growth and better yet, value.
Why does my company/organization need Marketing?
1. Capture the attention of your target market
2. Facilitate your target market’s purchasing decision
3. And bottom line, it is the cornerstone of every successful business
The first step in Marketing your business is developing a Marketing Plan. Consider this your guide to understanding your businesses’ goals, objectives, target audience, etc. This plan will allow you to create strategic ways that resonate with your target audience and set you apart from the others.
In developing a Marketing Plan consider these components:
A. Situation Analysis– This is your company/organization’s current situation. What is your company about? where do you stand financially? what are your goals? Who are your competitors?
B. Target Market- Who are you trying to reach? What do they value? What are their needs?
C. Action Plan-How are you going to reach your target audience? What marketing strategies are you going to implement to help you reach them, grab their attention, influence their decision in using your product or services?
D. Evaluation Plan– Once you have created and implemented your strategy, monitor its effectiveness and make any adjustments required to maintain its success.
Example: (Short version of course)
• My goal is lose 10lbs in 30 days.
• My strategy to lose the 10lbs is to work out 5x a week and
Cut out all carbs.
• My evaluation plan is to create a journal of my daily intake and workouts. Every Sunday throughout the month, I’ll weigh myself, write it down in my journal and track the progression of my weight loss
Marketing Strategy: Your strategy is how you’re going to accomplish the goals in your plan. Your strategy promotes and communicates the benefits of your business. What differentiates your company from your competitors. Basic examples below.
A. Social Media Marketing– Free platforms that millions of people utilize each day. Develop a social media plan that targets your audience.
B. Advertisement – Paid Ad placement
C. Creative Content – Story telling through graphics and video’s, infomercials,
D. Public Relations (PR)- News stories, blog write-ups, interviews in publications, on radio & television about your company/organization.
E. Effective Blogging- This strategy has so much impact if used to its fullest capacity.
F. Leverage Influencers– Influencers are people who have a voice in the market you’re trying to reach. Use their platforms to communicate your message. Some companies create what we call “Brand Ambassador Programs”.
G. Partnering with a charity or non-profit. This is considered cause-related marketing. It allows your company/organization to become visible to the public in a positive light.
H. Cross Marketing/ Cross Promoting- Partnering with companies that share the same vision but are in two different lanes.
I can go on and on about strategic marketing. It’s about being creative, innovative, and strategic. Put yourself in your consumers shoes, how would you like to be pitched? What are some things you would appreciate and like, if you were on the other side? Remember this, Branding is the foundation, and Marketing is the core!
My next couple of blogs will directly highlight in detail some of these marketing strategies from point A-Z, starting with Social Media Marketing- one of the most powerful marketing tools known in this era of technology.

Creating a BRAND, Delivering a PROMISE
Every successful business/organization is built on the foundation of a solid brand. Your brand is defined by how your customers perceive you and their overall experience. Your brand is not what YOU say it is, but rather how people feel about doing business with you and the people who are apart of your organization.
Why should you care about your brand? There are too many competitive options with similar qualities and resources. Building a strong brand builds trust with your customer, and as we know- we tend to go with who we trust. It’s about connecting with individuals emotionally and developing long lasting relationships. I’ve been through many transitions in my career from, Promotions, Public Relations, Marketing, but I never understood the impact and even more so, the VALUE of being my own BRAND….until now.
Brand identity are visual elements that collectively communicate who you (organization) are, and what you (Organization) stand for: Logo, website, marketing materials, signage, packaging, graphics, social media & content marketing. A brand will stand out and be remembered if presented in a manner that is clear, credible, and appealing to the public eye. These are elements you want to invest in because once again, they represent who you are. (And when I say “you” that could mean your business, organization, event, product, etc.).
WEBSITE: A website serves as the hub for your organization’s, marketing, branding and communications. Your website has the power to help tell your distinctive story to the world, while showcasing the advantages of your program.. For instance, you can use testimonials, videos, images, press links and a narrative that is both compelling and transparent. Use your website to cross-promote other resources that you offer, such as upcoming events, try-outs, schedule, online spirit store, etc. Be sure to also implement your social media handles on your website that directly link back to your social sites.The key to this marketing tool is CONSISTENCY- KEEP YOUR WEBSITE UPDATED. If the information on your site remains static, unchanging and irrelevant, your potential and existing supporters will get the impression that your organization is not worth their time or funds. Create a platform that sponsors and others want to align with.
LOGO, MARKETING MATERIALS, GRAPHICS: Invest in your logo, website, graphics, and marketing materials. I encourage you to hire a skilled graphic designer to put these things together for you. Don’t be cheap and try to create them yourself! Remember, this is your “Brand Identity” that reflects and represents your organization. If you want sponsors, donors, etc. to invest in your program, you need to invest in it first.
Developing a strong, credible brand drives TRUST and inspires LOYALTY- and this is the foundation of a successful organization. In my next blog, we’ll dive into Marketing Tools and Strategies and how they help your program. Without a defined Brand, you’re spinning your wheels with Marketing.

The event will be hosted at Highland Park High School on Friday and at Lancaster High School on Saturday featuring local teams: South Garland, Desoto, Lancaster, Waxahatchie, and Highland Park and teams throughout the country: Chicago Simeon (IL), Whitney Young (IL), Sunrise Christian (KS), and Oak Hill Academy (VA). Each local team will play an out of town team.
