The two organizations have joined forces and are now officially known as “Southern Assault”. The merger was strategically crafted with the purpose of developing an elite travel basketball program that would be able to compete at the highest level, while strengthen the organization’s presence within the Texas market. The two will co-direct Southern Assault with equally shared responsibilities.

“I feel great about the merge. No egos and one goal. This union will bring a highly competitive program that will compete at the highest-level year in and year out. It will also give kids the opportunity to reach their goals and dreams while playing on the adidas circuit,” said Vonzell Thomas

Thomas brings a repertoire of accolades, a track record of developing young men into leaders on and off the court and will share 26 plus years of experience in coaching youth basketball. Since the inception of his first travel basketball team 20 years ago, Thomas has had the opportunity to coach, mentor, and produce multiple professional athletes, including Tony Mitchell (NBA & Overseas), Latavious Williams (Miami Heat & Overseas), Brandon Fields (NBA) and Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics).

“This partnership will make a major impact in Dallas as we work together to build a strong program that’s eager to learn, compete, and win. At the end of the day, we want to be able to help as many kids possible earn college scholarships, and we’re doing it through basketball.” – said Jazzy Hartwell

Jazzy Hartwell, Director of Urban DFW Elite has spent the last 30 years dedicated to helping young athletes reach their goals of one day playing collegiately and/or professionally. In 2004, Hartwell formed Urban DFW Elite, establishing itself as a stapled AAU basketball program, producing talent that went on to play professionally. Darrell Arthur (13-year NBA Veteran), Michael Crabtree (10th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft), Jermaine Beal (Professional Overseas Basketball), and Jordan Mickey (Professional Overseas Basketball) just to name a few. Hartwell’s proven leadership, and determination to build a winning program will not fall short with the formation of “Southern Assault”, in the words of Mr. Hartwell, “This program will embody what champions look like.”

The multi-city basketball tournament (D.C., Dallas, Memphis, Tampa) is designed to match National recognized basketball programs against some of the area’s top teams. The ARS/Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest also serves as a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital- in their initiative to give back – “because this is much bigger than basketball.”

This year, ESPNU will televise one of the most anticipated matchups of the year, Oak Hill Academy (VA) vs Montverde (FL) at 4:30pm Eastern Time.

“The tournament is a unique opportunity for people to see the nation’s best talent in a series of games- Travis Haddock (Event Director). With over 20 ESPN ranked high school prospects gearing up to play this weekend in Tampa, I would have to admit, this is definitely a lineup of the Nation’s best.
